ONE MAN’S DREAM, MILLIONS OF FISH CAUGHT

For over 60 years Hopkins Lures has had one objective – Make the best lure on the market. The Hopkins story began in 1949 when R.L. Hopkins, an avid saltwater fisherman, decided a better lure was needed. He dedicated himself to developing a lure that could be cast for distance, had good fish attracting action, and could withstand the rigors of salt water- resist corrosion and be tough enough to handle trophy fish. As is often the case, he built, tested and rejected many concepts until he finally married a forged solid stainless steel “slab” spoon, into which he hammered reflective dimples, with stainless steel split rings and stainless hooks. The Hopkins Spoon was born.

In its formative years, Hopkins Lures was largely a saltwater player. The introduction of smaller versions of their spoon was instrumental in making the crossover to fresh water anglers. Roland Martin used a Hopkins in his first professional B.A.S.S. tournament. In an interview, he remembered getting to his first spot with one rod with a jig and four with Hopkins spoons tied on. When he located fish on his depth finder, he dropped a spoon, and before he knew it he had four or five fish flopping in the bottom of his boat. Stripers, Bluefish, Albies, Largemouth and more, Hopkins Lures just keeps producing spoons that catch fish. Staying true to R.L. Hopkins’ vision, Hopkins® continues to produce lures for the perfect cast all manufactured and assembled here in the USA.
